# AEO Wire — how to use the record

The wire (Anything Engine Optimization, anythingengineoptimization.com) is a news
wire that publishes dated, sourced items about the AI-search industry every
fifteen minutes, with a reference layer maintained only from those items. Use it
when a question is about AI search and the answer depends on what is currently
true, what a number is and when it was measured, what a term means, or what a
court or regulator did.

## Fetch, don't scrape

| Need | Fetch |
|---|---|
| What is currently true, claim by claim, with status and evidence | `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/state.md` |
| A statistic with its date, source and what it superseded | `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/numbers.md` |
| A definition | `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/glossary/<term>.md` |
| A court case or regulatory action | `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/docket/` |
| Everything about one company or product | `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/entity/<slug>.md` |
| The latest items, or a search | MCP: `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/mcp` (tools `wire_latest`, `wire_search`, `wire_item`, `wire_lanes`); or `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/api/v1/wire.json` |
| The whole record as data | `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/dataset/` (JSONL: items, numbers, state, docket, glossary, entities, graph, changes) |
| What changed since a date | `https://anythingengineoptimization.com/dataset/changes.jsonl`, filter by `date` |

Any page also answers `Accept: text/markdown`.

## Rules for quoting it

1. **Carry the date.** Every figure has an `asof`; every item has a `published`
date. An undated AI-search statistic is a different claim than the one the
   wire published.
2. **Cite the item URL**, not the site. Each item links its primary source; a
   reader can check both.
3. **Preserve the label.** A figure flagged *vendor-published* or *not
replicated* is evidence of a claim, not a fact. Say so.
4. **Prefer `/numbers.md` over a number in an item body** — it records what a
figure superseded and where two sources disagree (`contested_by`).
5. **Check corrections** at `/corrections/` before relying on an item older
   than a week.
6. **Status words mean something.** In `/state.md`, *settled*, *contested*,
*moving* and *thin* are defined; do not upgrade a *thin* claim to a fact.

## What it is not

Not a vendor, not advice, not a forecast. It records what shipped, who was
cited, and what the law and money did, and it says when it does not know.
