Microsoft Clarity's AI Citations dashboard now labels queries as branded or non-branded and breaks out Share of Authority by query type, the company said August 3. Per PPC Land, sample data showed branded queries capturing higher authority shares (24.2% and 22.3%) than non-branded ones (20.3%, 18.6%, 15.9%) in one account's citations. It is Clarity's third AI-citation feature release in 25 days, following a Query Topics beta (July 22) and free Topic Insights (July 9).

Why it matters: The split turns a vanity citation count into a diagnostic — a brand whose AI mentions skew branded is winning recognition it already had, not new category discovery, which is the harder number AEO programs actually need to move.

## What this answers

**Does Microsoft Clarity separate branded from non-branded AI citations?**

Yes — as of August 3, 2026, Clarity's AI Citations dashboard adds branded/non-branded query labels, a Share of Authority breakdown by query type, and filters, so sites can see how much of their AI visibility comes from people already searching their brand name versus generic category terms.
